Over 5000 individuals living in Mara Talek, north of the world-famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Narok County Kenya now have access to safe drinking water courtesy of a partnership between the Rotary Club of Ongata Rongai, a Community Based Organization called Maasai Education, Research and Conservation Institute (MERC) and the Rotary Club of Arizona, Phoenix, in the United States of America.
A complete water system was installed which included a borehole, pump, generator, a 20-foot tower and water distribution system covering close to 8 km to serve the community. The Rotary Club directly oversaw the one-year project and was involved in the contracting, reporting and quality assurance on behalf of the Rotary Club of Arizona.
